Anything that enables an archetype will make its way high on my list, and Shelob, Child of Ungoliant enables a popular creature type. There have been other attempts to make spiders work before, but Shelob puts them all substantially to shame. Turning each and every tiny spider bite into a lethal, venomous threat is a big deal.

Add protection and an interesting way to “steal” opposing creatures and you’ve got something wild. Ward is already an annoying ability, but if you attach it to a swarm of deathtouch threats you have the makings of one of the most annoying Commanders ever printed. If you want to empower your eight-legged friends, this is the place the start and an obvious inclusion in the top five.
