The 10 Most Valuable MTG Cards from The List, September 2023 – #10 Exquisite Blood
April 7, 2025Introduced in Zendikar Rising, The List is a catalog of Magic: The Gathering cards that first took inspiration from the Mystery Booster release. As part of Wizards of the Coast’s concept of “Booster Fun,” cards from The List only appear in about 25% of Set Boosters instead of a marketing card. The List changes and updates on a set-by-set basis, where Wizards of the Coast will announce the most recent The List catalog in conjunction with the latest expansion with Set Booster support.
For example, with Wilds of Eldraine, there are around 300 cards from The List you can open in Set Boosters with representation from Commons to Mythic Rares. This time around, many of the new additions to The List center around Legendary cards with an Arthurian touch, with many Throne of Eldraine cards appearing in the recent update. In additon, there’s some exciting inclusions such as Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer and Academy Manufactor, where these cards also synergize with multiple cards seen in Wilds of Eldraine. In particular, some of these cards from The List are valuable depending on their uses in other formats. While it may seem a little confusing that you opened a banned Standard card in The Meathook Massacre from your Wilds of Eldraine Set Booster, the card itself is a staple in Commander because it’s a versatile sweeper that could generate a massive life point swing in your favor.
With that in mind, it is easy to dismiss these The List cards if you have never seen them before, but it is always worth checking their value as you may be pleasantly surprised. A quick trick to know if you have a card from The List is to check the bottom left corner. If you see a little white Planeswalker symbol on the card, it is a The List card from a Set Booster or a Mystery Booster. With that out of the way, let’s run down some of the most valuable cards from The List with Wilds of Eldraine’s release.
10 Exquisite Blood
An iconic card combo along with Sanguine Bond is Exquisite Blood, which hasn’t seen many reprints despite appearing as a value hit from The List. First printed in Avacyn Restored, the Enchantment is a mainstay of many popular Commanders such as Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and even more recently in Astarion, the Decadent, who quickly became a desirable Commander thanks to the critical acclaim of Baldur’s Gate 3.
While Exquisite Blood seems fairly innocuous in a vacuum, the life point swings can really add up throughout a game of Commander. And ironically, the Enchantment is excellent insurance against Rowan, Scion of War who cares about losing life to discount on casting haymaker spells such as Crackle with Power and Torment of Hailfire. While Exquisite Blood missed an opportunity to appear in Wilds of Eldraine as part of the Enchanting Tales bonus sheet, this Commander staple is an excellent open from The List and demand will remain evergreen.
