Very nearly topping the list, Sauron, the Dark Lord brings some unique abilities to the table. First, the real reason for how high he makes it here, is his killer Ward ability. Not many players are going to be willing to sacrifice their powerful legendary permanents, so that Ward is going to act as hexproof very often, and really tax the table to keep him off the board.
Speaking of taxing the table, getting a growing army for every spell the opposition casts is killer, and being able to transform that army into Tempt triggers and subsequent card draw is intense. Add some reanimation so the discard “downside” isn’t one, and Sauron is easily one the best new Commanders in the format, and the best Grixis has seen in awhile.
