10 More Budget Hidden Gems You Should Be Playing in Commander – 8 Commander Mustard
February 7, 2025A release that many Magic players forgot about but does have some hidden gems is Ravnica: Clue Edition, a small supplemental set that is inspired from the Clue board game. With this release, there’s a handful of new cards coupled with notable reprints such as Supreme Verdict and Council’s Judgment that are much more affordable than before. However, it’s the Clue character cards that are worth talking about for Commander play, especially Commander Mustard. For five mana, Commander Mustard does quite a bit if you happen to run a Boros Soldiers build in the singleton format. Not only does Commander Mustard gift other soldiers you control vigilance, trample, and haste but there’s an activated ability that can chip away additional damage when these soldiers attack a player. If there’s one thing Boros loves doing, it’s being aggressive.
While Commander Mustard is pretty tailored for Soldier-focused builds, there are other cards from Ravnica: Clue Edition that are underrated but could see broader applications. Apothecary White is fantastic in Food-focused builds, Headliner Scarlett is strong for any aggressive Red deck, and Mastermind Plum is ideal for any strategy that centers around Treasure token generation. Furthermore, many of these cards are only a few bucks at the time of publication and could be worth exploring the release for some other casually fun Commander cards.
