10 Budget Hidden Gems You Should Be Playing in Commander – 07 Public Enemy
January 31, 2025Perhaps one of my favorite budget cards to run in Commander is Public Enemy, and one that always forces the opponents to read the card because it just doesn’t see that much play often. From Streets of New Capenna, Public Enemy is a fantastic card if you want to force the table to defeat a problematic threat, encouraging awkward attacks that can further your game plan. Combat is often an underappreciated aspect of Commander as it is easy to cast spells and do your own thing but with Public Enemy, it incentivizes you and your fellow opponents to remove a threat with the reward of drawing two cards to whoever kills the creature first.
You can always return the Enchantment Aura back to hand in a timely manner with spells such as Stern Dismissal or Hoodwink, where you can keep enchanting other creatures with the card to continue the chaos in combat. Whether you’re enchanting a threatening Commander or a massive threat you own with Deathtouch, Public Enemy is an interesting design that can really mess with board states in Commander, perhaps encouraging a swift conclusion so you can shuffle up and play again.
