Being prevented from casting your commander in a game of, well, Commander can be absolutely infuriating. It’s not always a problem, as some Commander decks are able to function without their general on the field, but when you’ve built a deck around your commander’s abilities, having it locked in the command zone thanks to Drannith Magistrate can be backbreaking. There is a solution, of course – play cheap, interactive cards that can kill a two-mana 1/3 – but for many, this is a bridge too far. What’s next? Playing a reasonable curve with a functional mana base? In Commander? Unthinkable.
